Right to Take Offence
History has witnessed many great battles, revolutions, resistance and movements where people have come together to attain freedom and their due rights. Right to live, right to dignity, to vote, right to practice religion, right to education, right to equality and what not. There has been a constant struggle between the exploited and the perpetrator.
The recent turn of the decade has seen another right surfacing; right to freedom of speech, right to express, to opine. Now people bot just think but want to voice their opinions, loud and clear. This is being done through various social platforms. You think and you say. Along with this right, this freedom what else has come ad has started to coexist suo moto is right to take offence. Ohh so this is your point of view, sorry i don't agree with this, now you got to be sorry fpr keeping this view point; Offended I am! People are reacting reacting to every thing. Though this js good but when this reaction lack any kind of prior thinking one tends to blur the fine line between disagreeing and taking offence. What I think might be completely different from what you think, I am entitled to have differing ideas and opinions and say them out aloud. You don't have to agree to every thing that I say or think.
One needs to understand that with rights come duties and when you exercise your right to free speech you need shoulder the responsibility of being patient and open to diverse views, dissent and disagreement. One should be ready to sit and dialogue.
What saddens me the most is this lack of dialogue and streak of Fb rants and venting. You are ready to speak but not ready to listen thus you just login tl your accounts and puke out your thoughts, giving no space to any thought that is not in line with yours. Little knowledge is dangerous and this little knowledge is what results in those long arduous fb statuses. I am sorry i acknowledged that post of yours, that tweet of yours and that rant. What it deserves is ignorance to make it go down. You don't exercise you right tk freedom of speech but right tk get offended because your offence, aggression, impatience is what those words of yours stink of. Thus my sensibility doesn't allow me to take a note of it. I would rather choose silence in such a case than wasting my words.
. it will get easier.
